Enugu LG Chairmanship Polls:  Chris Onyekachi  Simon (Don Chris)  wins Igbo-Eze North, dedicates victory to Gov. Mbah

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Chris Onyekachi Simon has been declared winner of the Chairmanship position of Igbo-Eze North in the just concluded local government election held on Saturday across the 17 local government areas of Enugu State.

Onyekachi popularly known as Don Chris, Mkpuruoma 1 of Enugu-Ezikeoba was declared winner having polled 131, 751 votes , an overwhelming landslide victory over five other parties who participated in the election .

 

 

Annoucning the results at the Igbo-Eze North local government secretariat hall ,  Ogrute, Enugu-Ezike, the Returning Officer, Dr Chukwuemeka Chinedu Ejiofor, of the department of political science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said that having satisfied the provisions of the law by scoring the highest number of votes during the election, Chris Onyekachi Simon has been returned elected as Chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA. 

In an acceptance speech amidst thunderous applause, the Chairman-Elect thanked all the supporters, the electorates, stakeholders and all others for the massive show of support and solidarity from the period of consultations, campaigns and eventual election.

 

 He dedicated the victory to the Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubisi Mbah whom he said found him worthy to occupy the office at this point in history and for ensuring that the dividends of democracy gets to the grassroots in Enugu state.

Onyekachi who addressed the governor as great mentor promised to work in line with his mission and vision and to complement his development blueprint in the local council. He assured the people that he would never disappoint them as his social contract with the people of Igbo-Eze North is tailored to meet their expectations and more.

 

The newly elected council chairman also assured the governor that the people of Igbo-Eze North would reciprocate his kind gesture by giving him block votes during the governorship election early next year having benefitted in both human capital and infrastructure development.

“I pledge to serve with humility, lead with courage, listen with sincerity and work with dedication” he said.

 

 

Earlier during the election, there was massive turnout of voters at Odoru Isiugwu, home village of the newly elected chairman and across the 20 political wards in Igbo-Eze North where voters comported themselves in orderly manner with accreditation and voting conducted seamlessly.

Traditional Ruler of Isiugwu-Ugwuoji autonomous community, Igwe Chukwuemeka Alison while hailing the peaceful conduct of the exercise also congratulated Dr Chris Onyekachi Simon and appreciated Governor Peter Mbah for fostering a people-centred governance in Enugu State.

 

 

Director General, APC Campaign Council, Igbo-Eze North LGA, Chief  Dr Damian Chirote Odo (JP) described the development as victory as for democracy, APC, Enugu state and the good people of Igbo –Eze North whom he said yearns for progressive, inclusive and people-oriented leadership.
