UNIZIK collaborating with firms on Ai related initiatives to advance innovation and technology says VC, Prof Anyaehie

Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has disclosed that the university is presently partnering with three different firms on Artificial Intelligence (Ai) related matters geared towards promoting the institution’s advancement in science and technology.
The Vice Chancellor spoke while receiving a delegation of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Committee of the University who paid him a courtesy visit in his office said his administration is committed towards reinforcing institutional commitment to innovation and emerging technologies.
He commended the committee for its initiative and urged members to fast-track the policy development process and assured the committee of full institutional support, contingent on clearly defined terms of reference.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Chairperson, Prof. Christiana Chikodi Okezie, outlined the committee’s mandate, emphasizing its role in advancing the understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including its ethical implications. She noted that the committee is working towards developing a comprehensive AI operational policy to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper regulation of AI usage within the University community.
She further highlighted the committee’s responsibilities in monitoring data usage, focusing on data control, regulation, and the flow of information within and beyond the institution. According to her, drafting the policy framework remains a top priority.
Also speaking, Prof. Nkechinyere Nwokoye reaffirmed the committee’s capacity, noting that all members are certified AI practitioners committed to delivering impactful results.
In her closing remarks, Prof. Okezie expressed gratitude for the Vice-Chancellor’s support and reiterated the committee’s dedication to achieving its mandate.
Other members of the delegation include Prof. Ikechukwu Onyenwe (Vice Chairman), Okoye Nneoma Emelechi (Secretary), Prof. Richard Uwakwe, Prof. Titus C. Okeke, Prof. Francis Nwankwo, and Prof. Nkechinyere Nwokoye.
The visit served as an opportunity to formally introduce the committee, welcome the Vice-Chancellor, and present its ongoing activities and strategic direction
