Suspects Arraigned Over Alleged Kidnappings And Ritual Killings In Enugu
The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned three suspects, including Mr. Obi Levi Obieze, before a magistrate court in Enugu over alleged involvement in serial kidnappings and ritual killings in Umumba Ndiagu community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The suspects were arraigned on a seven-count charge involving kidnapping and murder of three individuals, including a 13-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and a 31-year-old woman.
The charges were read out by the Prosecutor and Head of the Legal Team, Enugu State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Justice Attah Esq. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate’s Ruling
His Worship, Osondu Chukwuani, of Court 1, Enugu North, ruled that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) review the charges and recommend a higher court for trial since Magistrate Courts do not have jurisdiction to try capital offences like murder.
The matter was adjourned to August 20, and the accused were ordered to be remanded in prison custody.
Background of Arrest
Recall that Obieze, alias “E dey play e dey show”, was apprehended at the Badagry-Seme border area while trying to flee Nigeria following alleged involvement in abduction, kidnapping, and ritual killing that rocked the Umumba Ndiagu community in May this year.
The arrest was made through concerted efforts of the police, Nigeria Immigration Service, and other sister security agencies.
