Anambra Guber: YPP Committed to Restoring Dignity of Governance in Anambra State — Deputy Governorship Candidate

Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025, Dr Uzu Okagbue has affirmed that he and the party’s governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, are offering themselves to restore dignity and integrity to governance in the state.
Okagbue said that their candidacy is not driven by a sense of entitlement but by a profound commitment to revitalize governance and reclaim the people’s trust.
“We are not merely representing a political ticket; we embody a commitment to lead with conscience and to awaken Anambra’s true promise,” he declared.
He called on the people of Anambra State to rise to the occasion: “Let us rise to this moment and demand leadership that reflects our highest aspirations.”
Okagbue made these remarks during the maiden International Conference organized by the Department of Political Science at Nnamdi Azikiwe University on Thursday.
He said the conference was more than an academic exercise but a moment of profound reflection and renewed determination.
The keynote address was delivered by Chief Olisa Metuh, who titled his speech, “Africa at Crossroads: Confronting Governance, Security, and Development Challenges in the 21st Century.” challenged the people of Anambra to confront their governance challenges head-on.
Reframing the concept of zoning, Metuh described it as a tool to promote meritocracy and capacity, rather than a mechanism for appeasing political elites.
“The conference, anchored by Akajiugo’s insightful presentation, reminded me that Anambra, home to some of Nigeria’s finest minds, stands at a critical crossroads. We can no longer tolerate political mediocrity disguised as tradition,” Metuh stated.
He stressed that the upcoming election must mark a decisive break from the past:
“We must ask ourselves who among us possesses the depth, discipline, and courage necessary to lead us forward? “He asked.
