A Final Tribute: High Chief Chidubem Nwabunike Laid to Rest in Ojoto

The Nwabunike family, alongside relatives, friends, and well-wishers, recently came together to say their final goodbyes to the late High Chief Chukwudubem Joseph Nwabunike Onyima, Ichie Ebonesii I of Ojoto, also known as Africana. The funeral ceremony, held in Ojoto, was a heartfelt tribute to a man whose life was marked by service, philanthropy, and wisdom.
The ceremony began with a moving church service at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Ngogwugwu Obiofia Ojoto, in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State. The service was officiated by the church’s vicar, with numerous reverends in attendance to honor the late High Chief.
High Chief Onyima was a highly respected figure within his community and the church, serving in various capacities throughout his life. His legacy is one of truth, charity, hard work, wisdom, and integrity, leaving a deep and lasting impact on those who knew him.
During the service, the first son of the late High Chief, Mr. Chidiebere Chigbogu Nwabunike (Ezeudo, Ogbabala Akunanwu), spoke fondly of his father, describing him as a dedicated philanthropist whose actions were always aimed at improving the lives of others. “My father would give his last Kobo to ensure the happiness of those around him. His legacy of peace-making and his commitment to education are principles I will continue to uphold,” Ezeudo shared.
Ezeudo also urged the attendees to resolve conflicts while there is still time. “Tomorrow is not promised,” he said. “We should all strive to make peace with our friends, family, and even those with whom we have disagreements. I chose the title Ezeudo, Ogbabala Akunanwu, because I believe in the power of peace.”
A family friend, Mr. Somtochukwu, who attended the funeral to support his friend, shared heartfelt words about High Chief Onyima. He praised the late Onyima for his positive influence and life of integrity. “It’s not about how long you live but how well you live,” Somtochukwu said. “High Chief Onyima lived a life that touched many people and set an example for all of us.”
Mr. Somtochukwu also reminded everyone of the transient nature of life, encouraging them to live with purpose and make a lasting impact on others. “We leave this world with nothing, but we are remembered for how we lived and the lives we touched,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Ezeudo, on behalf of the Nwabunike family, expressed sincere gratitude to all those who supported the family during this time of mourning. He prayed for God’s blessings on everyone who contributed to making the event a fitting tribute to his father’s remarkable life.
